The town of North Hempstead presents a special Memorial Day Weekend Fireworks show. The show will be held at the North Hempstead Beach Park on West Shore Road, Port Washington. Besides fireworks there will be 3 live tribute bands.

The best part of spring is taking out an hour of your day to enjoy everything that has once again came to life after a cold and dreary winter. Clark Botanical Gardens is just the place to do that. Its a great free thing to do on a sunny afternoon on Long Island. Its usually very quiet and peaceful with the exception of a nearby train going by once and a while.
A 1 hour vacation for all the senses, there are things to see, fragrant flowers, singing birds and the occasional wild life including frogs, chipmunks, turtles and more. Many of the frogs and turtles can be seen in one of the two larger ponds.
The perfect place to bring your lunch and enjoy the scenery. Leave the cell phone in the car.

On Saturday, May 2nd & Sunday, May 10th (Mothers Day), Macari will be serving a glass of rosé with La Nena’s empanadas for $12.
$10 for Macari Wine Club Members.
The weather is getting warm and its time to visit all the beautiful beaches on the edges of the north and south shores. 
This past weekend was the first day Long Island has seen the warm 80 degree weather in months. What better way to celebrate then to explore the Fire Island Sea Shore.
Parking was only $6 per car and walking tour to the top of the light house was $6 per person. The view from the top is well worth the cost of admission. The volunteer staff is also very friendly and knowledgeable.
The park is open until sundown. I didnt get to stay that day for the sunset but i plan on going back very soon to take some more pictures. The ocean on the south shor of the island if full of the usual crashing Atlantic Ocean waves but cleaner and slightly more soothing the over crowded sandy retail space Jones beach can be on a busy day.
One word of caution. There are signs in the sand that mark a “Traditional Nude Beach” People enjoying there freedom did seem to be discrete. Its definitely not for kite flying with the kids though.

St. Brigid’s is hosting a night of support for people who are dealing with employment/unemployment issues.
I’m writing to let you know about the meeting which will be next Wednesday (March 18th) at from 7:30pm to 9:30pm in St. Anthony’s Hall (right across the street from the church on Post Ave).
If you’re affected by any employment issues, please consider coming to our evening. If you know of another parishioner who might benefit from this kind of supportive time, please invite them. (You can send them a copy of the link below.)

Restaurant Week comes to Long Island’s East End.
From Sunday to Sunday, all participating restaurants
offer a three course prix fixe for $24.95 all night
(except Saturday when it will only be offered until 7 PM)
With over 40 participating business this is great chance to try out some of the east ends best sites for food and wine lovers.

Summer on the north fork of Long Island is all about the the rich, the Hamptons, and of course wine tasting. One of my favorite places to relax this summer was Martha Clara Vineyards. An inexpensive tasting menu and fields of sunflowers, grapes and peaches make it a perfect for a glass or to of cold Glacier’s End.
